So MB reminded me the day before this derby that it was in fact the very next day - a Saturday. Those that know me know that I don't do Saturday mornings very well... but after much complaining on my part LJ and I were up at the crack of dawn and ready to be picked up by MB and BJ and HW - they even brought me COFFEE!!!! It was about an hours drive to get there after making a few stops, like remembering to pick up RB on the way - oopsie!!!! The weather couldn't have been much better in my opinion. It was cooler because of the breeze off the pond and it was slightly overcast so we didn't have the sun beating down on us all day. Scott was able to join us after he got off work which was great! Dr. F. was there and LJ hung out with him for a bit and LJ caught a fish - a rather LARGE fish!!!

The caretaker of the property had a potato gun and instead of stuffing it with potatoes he stuffed it full of candy then launched it up into the sky so it rained down candy for the kids to catch. They each had a bucket to do so and had lots and lots and lots of fun doing it.

They also had a pinata for the kids to take a whack at. LJ gave it a pretty good one too.
I honestly don't know who had more fun that day, the kids or the adults! It was a great day and I look forward to next year. I just need to set a reminder to remind me a little further away than the day before!
It's been a long time huh???WOW! It has been a long time hasn't it? Almost 2 years actually... to update you on all of it would be waaaayyyy too time consuming and my memory isn't all that great. I could just post a copy of my past two Christmas Letters but ... I didn't write them. Sorry Grandma!!! (She faithfully wrote one for 40+ years and it was something that I always mean to do but never finish :( ) So I'll take out my calender for the last two years and go from there...
APRIL 28, 2010
This was a very very very sad day. My beloved Alley's health had been decreasing over the previous 6 months. So much so that she didn't come to the office with me every day anymore. This was something she did EVERY SINGLE DAY since she was just a pup. She couldn't last the 10 minute drive to the office without having an "accident" in the car. It wasn't like she was being malicious about it... it would just kinda fall out. I had taken her to the Vet and we did try a few things but at this appointment that Wednesday morning I asked the vet THE question, "Is she in pain?" and he said, "Yes." That was it. That was what I needed to hear. I couldn't let her go on anymore.

Her ashes now rest on my desk in my office. I think of her every day and miss her so much. She will forever be in my heart. I know that she is ok now because she is up in heaven with my Father In Law and I know he's taking good care of her until I get there.
JUNE 10, 2010
After an extensive search throughout Monroe County and parts of NJ we found Molly. We went looking for a female German Shepherd and got close enough for us when we found Molly. Here is a picture from when we first met her:

We weren't sure what to name her at first. LJ, age 4 wanted to call her Princess... that was NOT going to happen! While we were in the pet store after her adopting the clerk helping me find the things that she needed gave the suggestion of Molly and it STUCK! She is now our Molly Girl, Moll-a-walla, Mall-a-walla-boo-ooo, Pretty Girl, Mol, and whatever else comes out of our mouths.
As you can see she was just about the same size as Jezebel (fully grown) when we brought her home. They get along well and like to "fight" a lot... mostly in my Mom's office while she's trying to work! We decided to crate train her but after a few "break-outs" from the crate we decided to leave her out in the house and have never had a problem! Well . . . except for the time last summer but I'll get to that later.

AUGUST 2010
A friend of ours has a camper and took it to a local camp site for the weekend and invited us all up for the afternoon. We had a good time just relaxing in the great out doors. There was a big rock next to where their site was and the kids were climbing all over it when I had a GREAT idea!
SEPTEMBER 1, 2010
My very good best friend decided to move to Iowa to be closer to the Specialists for her disease. She had recently split from her husband and needed a fresh start. When she first told me of her plans my immediate reaction was "When do you want to do it cuz I'll help you get there." So she packed up all her things - stuffed what she could in the the back seat and trunk of her car and shipped the rest and we were off. I had planned our route to Des Moines, IA by way of a few yarn shops ... I think we stopped in 4 along the way, almost one in every state we drove through. It was a fun trip and I'm glad I was able to help her.

OCTOBER 17, 2010
My very first trip to the Rhinebeck New York Sheep & Wool
Festival!!! My LYS (Local Yarn Shop) gathered a bunch of us together and
we caravaned our way up to Rhinebeck, NY - it was about a 3 hour drive
which passed in no time because we were a bunch of crazy knitters with
our knitting that did just that all the way there (and back!) OMG what a
wonderful time I had that day. I hung out with my one knitting friend,
Laurie for most of the day. We'd go our own way from time to time but
always seemed to meet up again for a bit. This is what I bought:

JANUARY 2011
My BFF is coming home from Iowa!!!!!!! She saw the Doctors in Iowa, they did what they could for her and now she's coming home (that is the very short version of what happened). While I was happy that she was getting a new start on her life I was sad she wasn't around to just "drop in" at the office. When she first told me the first thing I said was "When do I need to come out there to help bring you back?" LOL! The date hadn't been finalized yet but she did return home February 10th ;).

FEBRUARY 2011
I had my first meeting with Hamilton Elementary School to enroll LJ for Kindergarten! Kindergarten!!! Oh my how the time has flown...

MARCH 2011
LJ celebrated his 5th birthday with a trip to The Shipp! That's what he wanted and that is what he got! The Shipp is my husband's and his brother's favorite pub. They are both Mugger's after completing a beer list at this local restaurant.

APRIL 2011
We actually did something LOCAL that others travel miles and miles and miles to do. We went to the Crayola Factory! I had been there years and years and years ago and had always wanted to go back. While we didn't get to see the crayons actually made in the factory they did a pretty good demonstration of how it's done. .
JULY 2011
The 4th Annual Sydney Decker Memorial Tournament was a huge success! We didn't get quite as many golfers this year or sell quite as many raffle tickets but everyone had a GREAT time and we made quite a bit of $$ again to donate to the Make A Wish Foundation.

Here is Dad with his golf partners for the day.

It was my job again to be on the Ring of Gold. I sold raffel tickets to the golfers before they took their first shot on this hole. If on thier first shot they got the ball within a 10 foot ring around the hole they would get half of the $$ raised from the ticket sales on that hole. If more than one golfer made it within the ring of gold they would then split their half of the $$ raised. I have done this for a few years now and this year I had the best associate - B's girlfriend J :). We had a good time sitting in the shade, talking to the golfers as they play through and harassing them into letting us take pictures of them before they left.

I had to make a hard decision this summer. I took LJ out of the Daycare he had been in since he was 18 months old and enrolled him into the program at a Church downtown. It seems while his current daycare was just a hop from his Elementary school the buses won't drop him there because they are located in a neighboring school district. However, the bus WILL drop LJ off at his current daycare after school. I decided instead of waiting until the very end of summer to make that change I did it now so that he could make this transition before making the next one to all day kindergarten. He LOVES it! And so do I! It's so much more convenient for him to be 2 blocks from my office. I can pick him up after work and go do errands or we ALL can carpool and only have to bring 1 car into town 3 days a week. It's GREAT! Oh, and they have all kinds of cool projects and mini field trips planned for the rest of the summer.

My BFF and her SO invited LJ to a Fishing Derby at a the Hunting & Fishing Club they belong to. He had a GREAT time and even caught a fish!!!!
On Martin Luther King Jr. Day Mom and I took LJ to the newly renovated Movie Theater at our local mall to see Chipwrecked.

Most of the area schools had no school this partiular Monday and they were all in the movie theater!!! We had to sit in the very front row but we soon got used to being so close.

Another movie came out this month that I have been waiting and waiting and waitng to see.

It was AWESOME!!! Maybe it wasn't THE best movie ever made, but I LOVED it!!! I had read all the books and was so excited to see which actors were picked to portray each character. At first Hubby was the only other guy in the theater - which he pointed out to me of course, but eventually there were a handfull that were there too.

FEBRUARY
As per our family tradition we trekked to Williamsport to meet with FAB and UB to celebrate Hannamas (Hanukah and Christmas). This time we met in Olive Garden! A place that I am sure that we'll be meeting in again next year. We had a great big farm style table and didn't have to shout over the crowd or the music (problems we've had in the past). LJ received a Lego set from ES (FAB's Elder Son) which he set himself to put together all by him self - a first time for that!

While I'm happy he was able to put it together him self I was a little sad that he wouldn't have to ask me to do it for him any more.
My FAB and her husband UB had taken in a cat from someone who passed away, her name was Cleo. They have had Cleo for quite a few years but recently has gone to kitty heaven. My cat Clara has not been getting the attention she deserves since we brought Molly home. Clara used to sleep with us curled up in the crook of Hubbys arm, but not since Molly now sleeps on the bed too (even if it is down by our feet). Clara used to cuddle with us on the couch (escpeically in the colder months) but not since we brought Molly home. Molly doesn't sit with us on the couch because now she's just too big (she still thinks that she's the same size as Jezebel even though she's now 50 lbs). So Clara just wasn't getting the attention that I think that she deserves so when I heard that Cleo had gone to the big window sill in the sky I offered her to FAB and UB and after some "airing out the house" on their part they agreed to bring her into their home. I drove her to them (a 3 hour drive) and he meowed ALL. THE. WAY. THERE.!!! Once we got there it didn't take her much time to find some really good hiding spots but within a week she had become acclimated to them and they to her. I am so very happy for her to finally be getting the love and attention she so well deserves.

LJ gave her one of his favorite blankies to take with her that had his/our smells on it so that she wouldn't get too scared or forget about us. This was their last hug and Molly's last snuffle.

LJ had gone to a friend from Kindergarten's birthday party in January at Bounce U and had such a great time he said he wanted to have his birthday there too. (Sorry Daddy and UB, no Shipp this year!). So we did! A friend of mine made him a cake from a mold I got on ebay. He invited his whole class and some other family friends. Going into the party we had a confirmed 17 kids, so ok, that's a good number, a few more than we expected. Then the morning of the party some sisters and brothers and friends of the child that was invited and some cousins all came too! The Mom's were very polite and gracious and asked if they could "bounce" too and most of them paid for the extra kids which was very very nice and we ended up with 26 bouncers!!! That was enough that they had to bring in another staff person to bounce with the kids and keep an eye on them.

LJ was invited to another birthday party, this time it was at Poke-A-Nose Pottery and I was very excited for him. A friend that I went to High School owns and operates it with her husband and I just knew the party was going to be a big hit with all the kids. I just now realize that we never picked up whatever it was that he painted!!! I guess I gotta call them. Oopsie!!!

Logan was invited to another party at BounceU for one of his class mates. We have the best of time shopping in the toy section for the gift that LJ picks out for his friends. This time it was Action Figures.

FAB drove to my house and I drove us down to the outskirts of Baltimore for the Annual Maryland Sheep & Wool festival. Neither one of us had been before and while it was a lot smaller than Rhinebeck there was plenty of fiber fun to be had! This year FAB was on the hunt for Shawl Pins and Shawl Pins she did find - and purchase!!! Here's a picture of the fiberie goodness I was able to purchase while there:

I have started collection sheep and the little white one actually glows in the dark!!!! I am currently working on a Jaywalker sock in the Red, White & Blue skein and it's turning out wonderfully! I'll post pics later of all the projects I've been working on but since this is a catch up post I won't bore you with those now.

LJ's Elementary School had a Choral concert for all the Kindergarten classes. Dad had a Rotary function to attend and Mom came with us to go to the concert. To say that it was cute just doesn't do it justice. It was very very hot in that gynmasium but it was so worth it! My little ham is on the bottom left corner:

Well that brings me up to this month... so I'm going to end for now. We've had a pretty busy June so far but I'll leave that for my next post. I am sure I forgot some events but I got most of them covered. I also know that I have more pictures but I'll post them at a later date as well.
ReesieAnnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09787754640261886424noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4545354134902666720.post-78333763312666165652010-07-31T17:41:00.015-04:002010-08-01T01:51:36.561-04:00Kool-Aid Dying Attempt #1Last summer FAB and I took a yarn dying class at Kraemer Yarns in Nazareth, PA. We each dyed two skeins of yarn:

FAB's skeins are on the left, mine are on the right. I'll save my final judgment for after I knit with it. I have knit with hand dyed yarns before and how they look in a skein can be quite different than after it's been knit or crocheted with.

Now, I'm going to go play with a skein of yarn that is still in one big loop. I'm thinking of tying some yarn around some sections so that the yarn under that section won't get much if any dye on it. Maybe I'll use Black Cherry Kool-Aid this time . . .

Edited to add: I would NOT SUGGEST that you crochet two strands of this sock yarn together as I did in this first experiment. It took me HOURS to un-ravel it. It knotted up and fuzzed A LOT and was a major pain. I would really like to post soon. Actually I'm gonna plan on posting soon. Lots of things have happened since JANUARY - a lot of good and some not so good. Give me a week ok? Luv, ReeseReesieAnnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09787754640261886424noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4545354134902666720.post-11253054502870192052010-01-02T23:38:00.002-05:002010-01-03T00:00:06.189-05:00New Year's Resolutions . . . maybe not . . .I haven't checked . . . but I may not have actually typed into this blog . . . but sometime about this time a year ago I told myself that I wanted to blog daily . . . even if it was just to say that it was raining instead of snowing or that LJ said something funny (which is usually a daily event). This year is going to be different. I don't think that I'll say that I'll post daily because there are very few things that I do every single day unless forced to (don't think I could go a whole day without going to the bathroom). But I will say that I WANT to post at least weekly - that being said I want to go no more than 7 days between posts. Sometimes that might be that I post every day and other times there may be a gap of 7 days between posts but I'm going to try really hard not to let it go more than the 7 days.

I've been thinking a lot the last few days about what I want my New Year's Resolution will be. I've come up with a few but knowing myself they will all have been thrown out the window by the end of January. Some of them include to stop picking at my toes (I'll spare you the gory details of that one), to stop biting my cuticles (I gave up biting my nails years ago but that was only because I began to bite my cuticles instead)- I've even gone so far as to pick at my cuticles with tweezers. I also thought of putting myself on a yarn diet but that just isn't going to happen. No matter how hard I try - I WILL come up with a plan to buy yarn so that it doesn't count against my yarn diet, I'm cleaver like that.

One resolution that I really really really do want to keep/accomplish this year is to clean out and organize my "front room". This is what used to be the front porch of my house that the previous owner enclosed to extend the inside living room space. I have been living in this house for 5+ years and there are still boxes of of stuff out there that haven't been fully unpacked yet. Notice I said unpacked - they have been gone through and rearranged and what not and a few things taken here and there but they have never been fully unpacked. Hubby keeps threatning to get a dumpster and just throw it all out as if we haven't used it in the 5+ years we've lived here then what the hell do we need it for???? He's right, he's so right but I just can't bare to just throw it out. I know that there are things out there that I want, things that have sentimental value to me and things that one day I just might NEED!!! This brings me to a new show that we've been watching called Horders on A&E. I don't want to become a hoarder. So, my resolution this year is to clean out the front room and get rid of stuff I don't want or need anymore or things that I've been holding on to because I just might need it someday. It's been 5+ years - it's time to let go - they are just things.

So there you have it. I am making 2 resolutions this year:

#1: Blog a lot more often.

#2: Clean out and organize my front room.

and I'm going to add one more:

#3: Use up as much of my stash as possible instead of buying new yarn. There I said it.

Happy New Year!!!!!!ReesieAnnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09787754640261886424noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4545354134902666720.post-18929986706716111642010-01-02T15:04:00.002-05:002010-01-02T16:15:28.839-05:00Forgive me that it has been soooooooo long!!!!Ok, so just as I start just about every other blog entry by apologizing for how long it's been since I have blogged - this one shall be no different. Here is a breif update on what has been going on since September...

Like I said in my last post that Scott was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes. This was discovered in his pre-op blood work for his knee surgery - thus cancelling the said knee surgery until he could get his numbers under control. As of this date I am happy to announce that he has gotten his blood sugar numbers under control and has been given the go ahead by his primary physician to have the surgery done. He has an appointment this coming Tuesday to meet with the surgen to set a date - more on that later.

My Local Yarn Shop (LYS) celebrated their 5th year anniversary of being in business in November with a party to benefit two local charities. We raised over $1300 between ticket sales and the Chinese auction. I won a bracelet made by Abigail Deardorff and 10 skeins of light blue yarn. Dunno what I'm going to do with either just yet.

The very next day Scott and I celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary. I can't beleive it's all ready been 5 years - some days is seems like so much more and other days it seems like it was only yesterday. We wanted to get a way for a night or two just the two of us but that didn't happen.

As per tradition we went to Aunt Karen's and Uncle Andy's for Thanksgiving dinner. Everything was DELICIOUS as always! I even had 3 servings of corn pudding. I can't remember the last time I had 3 servings of anything. It was soooooo good!!!!!! Earlier that day I had a great idea! Scott and I had been watching the sale adds for toys for LJ for Christmas. And there was a Toys-R-Us right next to a hotel over in Rockaway, NJ. And since we were all ready 1/2 way there at Aunt Karen's . . . and we didn't get a chance to get away for our anniversary . . . an idea was born. Grammy took LJ home from Aunt Karen's and Scott and I would continued to the hotel and went over to Toys-R-Us next door at midnight when they opened and start our Christmas shopping for LJ. When we drove past the TRU around 9:30 there were a few cars in the parking lot but no big line, but when we went back over just after 11:30 there was a HUGE line - but we got in it anyway! We stood in that line out in the cold until about 1:00AM when we finally made it into the store - where it was WARM!!!! We got a few good deals but I don't know that we would do it again. It was an experience that we can now say that we experienced.

Right around that time Scott got a new job with a local Attorney's office. It seemed like a really good idea at the time but after 7 weeks of working there he decided that it wasn't for him. He liked the people that he was working with but the actual work that he was doing wasn't what he really wanted to do. So for now he is job hunting and collecting unemployement. We also discussed it and thought this would be the perfect time for him to have his knee surgery - not only because he wasn't working but because it's winter and he isn't golfing much. If he were to have his surgery now then he would have the rest of the winter and part of the spring to recooperate before golf season 2010 started.

The fall months were pretty good for our Bail Bond business. I don't think it's as much as it could be but we're making a bit of money here and there.

This past December was a lot of the same old same old. I worked for an entire week for the first time since before LJ was born. Because he's in daycare 3 days a week and comes to work with us 2 days a week I have always had an afternoon or two off a week. Closings are dribbleing in although two weeks ago we did the biggest one in Gateway's history. To celebrate Dad booked two tickets for him and Mom to Arizona over President's weekend to visit with thier friends Wilson & June that used to live next to them.

For Christmas I had found a calender on ebay for my Mom from the Papillon Rescue group that I thought was was in Arizona but is actually in Arkansas (AZ - AR - it's close!!!!). I guess it was wishful thinking on my part that they would be so close to the Rescue. Mom has been toying with the idea of getting another dog for quite some time and to rescue one would be the ultimate! Ah well . . .

The most recent news is that Scott has a job interview on Monday with a local Lending institution. YAY! We were hoping that a position would be becoming open soon and it has. Only thing is . . . Scott's knee surgery may now be postponed - again!

On the knitting front - I took the class on the Celtic Shawl - had a blast - haven't finished the shawl. As it turned out the yarn that I chose to do the project with I just wasn't diggin it - so I changed to a different yarn - now I'm thinking that the second yarn is too heavy. So it's in a time out for now until I figure out what I want to do with it. I started Elizabeth Zimmerman's Pi Shawl - was going quite well then I put it down to knit a pair of socks for my BIL for Christmas - when I picked it up again I made a mistake and continued to make it to the point where I needed to rip out about 10 rows and start over - then I realized that I didn't rip it out enough so I had to rip it out again - and yet one more time - as for now it's in a time out. I cast on again for the Katerina Shawl out of the Knitter magazine from the UK with a lace weight yarn instaed of what ever yarn they suggested. So far so good :). Now that the Celtic Shawl is in a time out I'm going to take the needles off of it and put them back on LJ's blanket that I never finished and put it in a car so that I'll get some work done on it. I also cast on for a pair of socks recently with a DK weight sock yarn that I checked my gauge for and only need 48 stitches around for a pair of socks for myself. I think these are going to be my lounge around socks.

New Year's was good - low key - but good. We went down to Cookies - had pizza for dinner then brought B back up to our house where we drank and the boys played video games and I knit - we watched the ball drop - had a few more drinks then went to bed. No biggie but fun none the less.

So that's it. I hope to post more this year, so I guess we'll just see how that one goes.ReesieAnnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09787754640261886424noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4545354134902666720.post-65172601952227244682009-09-22T16:07:00.004-04:002009-09-22T16:36:22.040-04:00I know . . . More recently I joined a class to make a Celtic style wrap - love love love the yarn!

Well, that's the last few months in a nut shell - a very small, condensed nut shell. When did you learn to knit?
~ Spring/Summer 2008
2. Do you knit in groups or alone?
~ I knit alone - I knit in groups - I knit in public - I knit in the car - basically I knit wherever I get the chance!
5. What is on your to-do list or wish list?
~ on my to-do list is a sweater I started for LJ - good thing it's a bit big yet because I don't think it will be finished for him to wear this season - and I'm OK with that!
~ on my wish list would be a sweater to fit me the way that I want it to fit me and flatter me the way that I want it to.ReesieAnnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09787754640261886424noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4545354134902666720.post-28378450105285444962009-02-20T20:08:00.013-05:002009-02-20T21:14:20.753-05:00Sock updateSo here are some pics of my most recent completed socks that I promised:

These are my Monkey socks that actually I finished a while ago. When I started this pair of socks I was still a relitively new knitter. So by the time that I got around to doing the second sock I had a little bit more sock knitting experience under my belt and I was able to make the second one fit better than the first. They are both still a bit loose but I'm gonna wear them anyway. The pattern I used was from Cookie A. and titled Monkey Socks. The yarn I used was from Blue Moon Fiber Arts in colorway Alley Oop in lightweight. I just had to have THIS specific colorway because, well becuase ut was named Alley! Duh! I love love love this yarn!

I started this pair of socks back in November. I was so anxious to see how the colors would work out but then got sidetracked with other pretty yarns . . . thus this pair suffered from SSS (Second Sock Syndrome). About two weeks ago I got it in my head that I needed to finish up some things before I started anything new. A novel concept huh? So I cast on for the second sock and ended up finishing it in 6 days. I think that might be a record for me or something. I used another Cookie A. pattern for this pair of socks called Spring Forward. It took me into half of the second sock to realize that the repeat for this pattern was the same just adjusted by three or so stitches. Once I realized that, the pattern was even more of a breeze to do.

This is my most recent FO (Finished Object). It's just what we call a "Plain Vanilla Sock". I wanted the self striping yarn do all the talking, er . . . walking . . . The yarn I used was a special collection that was created around the characters in Harry Potter - The Half Blood Prince. The LYS (Local Yarn Shop) that I frequent ran a special class the week this special yarn arrived where we could sit and knit while watching Harry Potter. Unfortunately for me I was in Texas at the time and was unable to attend. Ah well, maybe next time. The yarn is from Opal and in the colorway of Tonks. I haven't cast on the second sock yet but hope to this weekend so I don't wind up with SSS (Second Sock Syndrome).

So there you have it. I have been working on some other objects but will save those for another day.

ReesieAnnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09787754640261886424noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4545354134902666720.post-90020450395326150462009-02-19T16:34:00.002-05:002009-02-19T16:45:31.383-05:00Blogging . . .I like blogging. I really like to read other people's blogs. I get upset when they don't update their blogs on a regular basis . . . then I got to thinking - Well dummy - you don't either!!! So here I am, blogging about blogging. I'm going to try to make an effort to blog a lot more often than I do. Not EVERY blog needs pictures (although those are usually the best part of the blog) just as long as there is one inserted here and there I should be fine.

Since my last post I have finished two more socks. One was the second of a pair (that I haven't shown you yet) and the other is the first of a pair. I hope to take pics of them soon, if not later tonight and post them for you to see. I'm really getting good at this stuff if I do say so myself. I'm figuring out how to make the sock not only in a sock shape with all the elements of a sock but one that will actually FIT my foot well. Not just a sock that technically fits on my foot. I'm also figuring out that not EVERY sock I knit has to be some special design. Now if I could just figure out that there are lots of patterns for socks in the books that I ALL READY HAVE and if I still can't find one in one of those to do then there are LOTS and LOTS of FREE patterns out there on the internet! Don't even get me started on Ravelry - yes I'm a member - look me up - I'm ReesieAnnPA.

That's all for now :)~ReesieAnnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09787754640261886424noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4545354134902666720.post-21974876059844918942009-01-29T21:42:00.004-05:002009-01-29T21:52:35.768-05:00Ron Weesley Sock #1So I've had an idea in my head for a sock pattern. It wasn't too terribly difficult... probably has all ready "been done" by someone else but it hasn't been done by me. The thing about this sock is that I did it all - every last stitch from memory. I didn't have to look anything up in any of my books. I figured out what my original cast on stitch count should be by my gage of another sock using the same yarn and needle size and type. I am very proud of myself at this point.

So here you have it:
Yarn: Opal - Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Colorway: Ron Weesley (#2354)
Needles: Knit Picks Size 1 (2.25mm) 32"
The basic pattern of this sock was: Rows 1-4: *K4P4* repeat - Rows 5-8: *P4K4*
I cast on 64 stitches - did K1P1 rib fora bout 10 rows then I started the pattern.
That's it - easy peasy!

Hard part: doing the second sock!ReesieAnnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09787754640261886424noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4545354134902666720.post-86929725179255950042009-01-27T11:01:00.006-05:002009-01-27T15:03:31.311-05:00Knitting Rules!

I really feel like a REAL knitter now! If you've never heard of Freecycle go to www.freecycle.org and read up about it. But if you are too lazy to do that here is a brief description of what it's all about from their website:

The Freecycle Network™ is made up of 4,663 groups with 6,353,000 members across the globe. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills. Each local group is moderated by a local volunteer (them's good people). Membership is free. To sign up, find your community by entering it into the search box above or by clicking on “Browse Groups” above the search box. Have fun!

I have belonged to my local group for about a year or so. It's a great way to clean out and get rid of things that you know could really be used by someone somewhere and it's just too much of a shame to throw it away. I know that I could probably sell a lot of the stuff on ebay but that tends to take a lot of time and effort for not a lot of profit.

Just this last fall we were moving things around in the office and had a lot of extra "stuff" that we just didn't need anymore. Like 3-ring binders, stamplers, green hanging folders - stuff like that. All I had to do was send one little email "offering" it up for grabs and I was able to make someone else's day.

Now... on to why I'm really writting about this. Just tonight as I'm sitting here at home watching TV and going from knitting on a sock to playing around on the computer I get an email that someone in my immediate (same town even) area was looking for a coat for her pony. A friend of mine had given me a XXL pet coat for Alley to use in the winter when it got really cold but it was WAY too big for her. Instead of just getting rid of it I held on to it. I think I had plans of putting it up on ebay or something one of these days... but never did. I knew exactly where it was and I after reading her email I dug it out and sent her an email giving her the dimensions and condition of it. Within minutes (and I mean less than 5) I got an email back from her stating that it did sound like something she could use and that she could pick it up tomorrow. This would have been fine except that it's just so damn cold out there that I knew that her pony needed this coat TONIGHT! Keep in mind that this is all happening at about 10:15 pm and aproximatly 1 degree outside. So I emailed her again saying that I knew that it was strange to offer but if she was up to it I could meet her tonight at a local gas station to give her the coat so her pony wouldn't have be out in the cold without a coat for one more night. And that is just what we did.

Within 30 minutes of her original post she had exactly what she was looking for and I had found a "use" for that coat that I have been hanging on to for an unknown reason for a few years. AND most importantly an animal that has to bout out in this rediculously cold weather will be warm tonight.

Even though it's very cold outside - my heart is full and warm and for that I am truely thankful.ReesieAnnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09787754640261886424noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4545354134902666720.post-22425373571349880292008-12-27T21:53:00.002-05:002008-12-27T22:30:11.890-05:00Brief update... well... I'll try to be brief...Allrighty then... since my last post... that I haven't wanted to post again because I liked clicking on my blog page just to see my tattoo... even though I can just look down at my wrist and see it.

Thanksgiving 2007
Thanksgiving Day was traditionally spent at Aunt Karen's house. Had a lovely time... lots of good food... was only missing Andrea & G-Man who were on vacation in Disney World.
The following day was my Dad's 65th birthday. We all (Dad, Mom, Hubby, LJ, Aunt Lorraine, Uncle Mike and I) went to dinner at Delaware Water Gap Country Club. This was the same place that Hubby and I had our Wedding reception at. Still looks exactly the same and still had wonderful food!
Saturday my FAB, Uncle B, their two son's and their GF's were in town. I got to spend some quality time with FAB - we went to my LYS and took advantage of a great sale that was going on. Woo Hoo!! Later that night my part of the family got to meet S's GF for the first time. She's seems very nice. A little quiet but very nice.

The beginning of January was kinda bleak. Let's just say buinsess was slow, if you call stopped all together slow... it kinda made getting into the Christmas spirit a little delayed. The second weekend of December we got our tree. It took us a week to get it up with lights and finally decorated but once we did it looked great! LJ loves to turn it on and off and really leaves it at that. We had to move some money around to allow us to afford Christmas this year. We hated to do it but sometimes you just gotta do what you need to.

Christmas shopping this year was different than any other year for me/us. First of all we wrote a list of all we wanted to give to. Then we put a $$ limit on each person. Then we brainstormed and wrote down a few ideas for each person. We were quite organized about the whole thing. We also didn't purchase one thing online which is just UNHEARD of with me. I buy a lot online but not this year. I didn't really have a reason to as we were able to find just about everything locally. Which in the broader scheme of things is better for our local economy anyway. I did make two of the gifts we gave this year and both were receiveved really really really well. I made a scarf & hat for my Aunt Lorraine and a scarf for my Dad. LJ was the major focus of everyone's gift giving this year which was awesome! He got a lot of GREAT things. We havent' even opened them all up yet. Hubby and I got him a play kitchen which he just LOVES. At one point durring our family gift exchange he didn't want to open any more gifts because he was just too busy playing with his kitchen (which he calls his chicken). He even held up his hand to me and said very seriously "Mommy, I'm busy" and went back to playing with his kitchen. I received a set of Knit Picks Harmony Interchangeable Knitting Needles from M&D - they are SOOOOO BEAUTIFUL!!!! But now I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what to cast on first! I did get a few knitting books so I'm sure I'll come up with something.

So there you have it... my rather brief (well... breif for me) update. I'll be sure to post again soon.

Oh... FAB... TAG!!! You're IT!!!!ReesieAnnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09787754640261886424noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4545354134902666720.post-48553371875690924552008-10-20T20:29:00.004-04:002008-11-04T10:15:10.961-05:00Believe

WELL... WHY??
Why Believe????

It all started many many many moons ago... almost two decades worth one sunny day in 4th grade. A new girl walked into my class room... the teacher asked if anyone rode bus # whatever it was and I was the only one... so Tammi was seated next to me and so our friendship began and we've been friends ever since. There was a minor break when she went to private school for two years but we still remained friends. Then Freshman year of High School we were reunited once again. I can still remember our first day of school. She walked to my house then we walked together to the bus stop. We weren't even to the end of the sidewalk in front of my house when I asked her if she liked The New Kids on the Block - and her answer was yes! Then the next most important question was which one? As it turned out she liked Joe and I liked Jordan and our friendship has been locked tight ever since. (Hey Tam - didn't know I remembered all that didja?)

So the years went buy and we lusted after NKOTB. We had posters and pins and buttons and trading cards and videos and I can't even remember what else we had but we were BIG fans. Unfortunately for the two of us we never got to see them live in concert. Sure we saw them on TV and taped the Half Time Show of the Super Bowl they played... but we never got to see them live.

Fast forward to 2008...

We found out (I don't remember who told who or what) that NKOTB was getting back together!!!! We were both ecstatic! And this time around we were NOT going to miss them in concert. The problem we had was that Tammi was now in TX and I was still in PA and neither one of us had the money to go to the concert, much less together.

Then one day Tammi instant messages me that through a co-worker she was able to score 2 tickets to their concert in Houston, TX! At first I'll admit I was EXTREMELY jealous - I wished I could go so badly. Tammi was really my only friend that I ever shared my NKOTB fetish for and she'd be my only chance to have someone to go to a concert with. But I guess I was feeling lucky that day and hopped onto a travel site and lo and behold round trip tickets to Houston weren't all that expensive and if I were to stay at Tammi's place and tighten up just a little I could afford to fly to Texas and go to the NKOTB concert with Tammi - SO I DID!!!!!

As you read in my last post the concert was amazing. The guys still have ALL The Right Stuff and were hotter than ever!!!!!

Now up until this point Tammi and I have been throwing around some ideas to get matching tattoo's. We just didn't know what, we kinda had the idea of where, just not the what. Then... at the concert... while Jordan was singing "Baby, I Believe In You" I had an epiphany - we could get the word Believe on our wrists. See, not only does Jordan sing a song with Believe in the title but Joey has a song called "Stay the Same" which in the chorus of the song has a line that says "Believe in yourself...". What a WONDERFUL idea! That was it. It was set.
We were going to get Believe in script on our left wrists.

Two days later we were in a tattoo parlor having Believe indefintaly tattooed onto our bodies. What a wonderful experience! And what a wonderful person to share it with!

I love you Tammi, now and forever and always remember to
Believe in Yourself because Baby, I Believe in you!

(Ok, I know that last part was extreemly corny but deal with it!)

ReesieAnnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09787754640261886424noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4545354134902666720.post-20832745774091430132008-10-17T13:22:00.003-04:002008-10-17T13:46:26.988-04:00A Quick Howdy from Texas!!!!
I made it to Texas just fine. LOVE NON-STOP FLIGHTS! On the way down I turned the heel of my first Monkey sock with my Alley-Oop STR yarn. I am in LOVE with this yarn!

Tammi picked me up from the airport and we have been nonstop talking ever since. Things between us NEVER change and that is what is so AWESOME!

Yesterday was a fun day. We went out to lunch with her friends Lara, Bobby & Robert. They are great! Then we went to Lara's school so she could do some quick computer work which was cool cuz I got to see where Tammi goes to school. We then parted ways and were on our way back to Tammi's apartment to rest a little before the concert and we got a call from Lara asking us if we wanted to meet her at the club for a few drinks. SURE! So we ran back to the apartment... got dressed for the concert - picked up the tickets and off the club we went. I met Lara's friend "H" who was EXTREEMLY nice and bought us all drinks.

Then it was time to head down to the concert in downtown Houston. We got there right before they opened the doors to let everyone in. It was CRA-ZY. Some of the get-ups girls were wearing were down right hillarious. There were pink sequins - pink fishnet stockings - hairsprayed and teased hair - glitter - some just went all out. There were some men there... mostly accompanying thier signifigant others - they are my heros. I know deep down in his soul if I really really really couldn't find ANYONE else to go to a NKOTB concert with he would go. Of course he'd give me a hard time about it THE WHOLE TIME and never let me live it down - but still... he'd take me. Lucky for him he didn't have to as I was able to go with my BFF since the 4th grade, Tammi instead.

Here we are at the concert - I took it with my camera phone and it's really a crappy pic but it's still of US AT THE CONCERT! Ohhhh... the concert... OHHHH MYYYYY GAWD!!!! It was SO AWESOMLY AWESOME!!! It was the BEST show I've ever seen. It was absolutly EVERYTHING I could have EVER imagined. The energy in that arena was astonishing. The Guys were even better looking - they still had ALL THE RIGHT STUFF. At one point Jordan was doing one of his solo songs from his CD and was on stage with an open white shirt and had a fan blowing on him so his shirt blew away from his chest - his GLORIOUS CHEST - OMG!!! The girls we had befriended next to us noticed how much I was admireing his FABULOUSNESS and offered me her binoculars to have a better look - OMG! Seriously though... I got weak in the knees! Tammi almost had to catch me. We had such a good time - it was worth every single penny. Note to self - ALWAYS WEAR SNEAKERS to a concert no matter what else you are wearing!!!!

So far today it's been pretty slow going. Mostly we've been surfing on the internet and looking at pics of NKOTB. Tammi just got in the shower so it'll be my turn next. I think we may hit a yarn shop or two and maybe a tattoo parlor as well. I had an epiphany last night at the concert for "our" tattoos - it's going to be SO COOL! Now I know that tattoo's aren't licked on like kittens and it's going to be painful but it's all going to be worth it. This WHOLE trip has been.

ReesieAnnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09787754640261886424noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4545354134902666720.post-59566890517680941522008-10-08T11:00:00.005-04:002008-10-08T19:56:04.569-04:00Socks That Rock really do ROCK!!!
This is my latest addition to my ever growing stash of Sock Yarn. It's from Blue Moon Fiber Arts - Socks That Rock collection. The colorway is Alley-Oop. I've been lusting over their sock yarns for some time now. Lime & Violet RAVE about them constantly and I JUST HAD TO HAVE SOME TOO!!! Now that I have a hank in my clutches... what to do with it?? Take lots of pictures of it and CAST ON a pair of socks... but what socks? This yarn is just too dang beautiful to just make any ol' sock so the search began to find a worthy pattern. Well I didn't have to go far because I've been wanting to make Monkey socks for a while and what better time than now???? So cast on I did! Turns out that for some reason when I start a ribbing pattern (in this case it was [K1 tbl, p1] ) I knit VERY VERY TIGHTLY and after getting through the ribbing and one repeat of the pattern I've decided that it's too tight and I'm going to frog it and do a different ribbing and continue on.
See what I mean??? It's so much easier to shop for Hubby and LJ but oh so hard to shop for myself. So many times in the past I've bought something (even after trying it on) only to take it home and washing it - to never wear it because it shrank! UGH!!! So anymore when I find things in stores that I even kinda like I just don't know if I should get it or not because I'm so afraid of it shrinking on me... even if I take charge of the situation and buy one bigger size thinking that it WILL shrink... AND IT DOESN'T!!!! So now I have something that is even baggier on me than I normally like to wear. UGH!!! So what is a girl to do???

BUY SHOES OF COURSE!!!!

I got one pair of black and one pair of brown Mary Jane's.

Now why in the world would I buy Mary Jane's you ask???

To show off my knitted socks of course!!!!!

That is if I ever get to finish one!!!!

ReesieAnnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09787754640261886424noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4545354134902666720.post-19645745503637756692008-07-27T16:52:00.003-04:002008-07-27T17:03:12.451-04:00New Deck Furniture! We've been living in this house now for 4 years. We have a really great deck out back that we never use except to walk across from the door to the driveway and a place to store our trash cans. Well this weekend we finally broke down and bought a table & 6 chairs for our deck! Woo Hoo!We got them at Lowe's after looking at 4 other stores. The best part...

THEY WERE ON SALE!!!!

We've all ready broken them in. My Brian and Kayln came up on Saturday night to hang out... and that's what we did, on our deck, around our NEW table in our new comfy CHAIRS! That is until it got dark and the bugs came out - gotta get some citronella candles or something.ReesieAnnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09787754640261886424noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4545354134902666720.post-10707145168148008552008-07-27T15:28:00.006-04:002008-07-27T16:52:22.361-04:00Onwards.. and Upwards...So... I'm going to get on with my life... without my sock... my first knitted sock... EVER... and get back to updating you on all that is going on with me :) because most of it is happy happy!

On Thursday I got my Knit Picks order! Whee!!! Lots and Lots of stuff for MEEEEEEE!

I took advantage of the sale Knit Picks was having on books (until Aug. 8th in case anyone was interested) and got a few that I've had my eye on for quite some time. Just in case you can't tell what they are... The first one on the left is the "Knitting Workshop" by Elizabeth Zimmerman - what good knitter would be without one of these??? I had to wait for it to become available (which also held up my order with KP) but I just knew it's going to be WELL worth the wait. When ever I'm talking to Muggles (as I've heard someone call non-knitters) and I tell them about Elizabeth Zimmerman I call her "THE Grand Mum of Knitting". I think that she would be one of the 3 people I would want at my dinner table (dead or alive) if I ever got the chance. You know that hypothetical question that some people like to ponder. Although right now I don't feel worthy enough since I am such a beginner... but then again... who better to learn from right?

The next book is the "Sweater Workshop" by Jacqueline Fee. I've also heard lots and lots and lots of good things about this book as well. Kelley Petkun talks about it often in her podcast. At this point in time I'm a little intimidated about knitting a garment for myself or anyone else for that matter. When I first started thinking about knitting it was SOCKS that I wanted to knit the most. But from what I've heard about this book that this is THE book to learn how to knit a sweater from. If I follow it from beginning to end I'll be a pro and know all there is to know about knitting/designing/tailoring a sweater.

The next book is called "I Can't Believe I'm Knitting Socks" from Leisure Arts. I'm not sure where I heard about this book - it could have been Kelley Petkun or it could have been Lime & Violet or both... but it looks good to me. I think it was Lime & Violet that raved about the basic sock pattern in this book because the instructions have you make each part of the sock in a different color so that you'll really really be able to visualize the different parts that make up a knitted sock. Very cool!

The last book on the right is called "The Magic Loop" by Bev Galeskas and based on Sarah Hauschka's Magical Unvention. I'll admit it looks strange but anyone I've talked to about it LOVES knitting socks this way. I don't know if I'm quite ready for it but I got the book on sale for a really great price so even if it sits around for a while who cares right? It was on Sale!!!

Now for my goodies! Of course after getting "The Magic Loop" book I had to have some longer cable needles to do it with right??? So that's what you see on top of my books - All 3 are size 1 needles in 32" length, 40" length and 47 " length. Oh, and you can't tell in the picture but they are made out of Knit Pick's Harmony wood which is absolutely beautiful. They truly are pointy pieces of art!

Now what kind of knitter would I be if I didn't get YARN too???? Duh!!! I am trying to keep my stash down - as I can become quite a hoarder when it comes to a new craft. Let's just leave it at that shall we??? So I only bought what was on clearance because: A. IT WAS ON SALE!!! and B. it was most likely going to be discontinued right??? I got 2 skeins of Essential Sock Yarn in colorway Dune Twist - I thought this would make a nice pair of brown socks. I also got 2 skeins of Shine Sport in colorway Sky and 3 skeins of Shine Sport in colorway River. Now to be perfectly honest... I'm not sure why I ordered the Shine Sport yarns. I vaguely remember looking through the site and coming across a book with a pattern to make a knitted puppy... out of these two colors. But I didn't' buy the book that went with it... hmmmmm..... yup that's what it was... I meant to buy "Knitted Toys" and make the Floppy Dog pattern out of this yarn... maybe FAB all ready has this book... hmmmmm...

So that was ONE of my exciting moments on Thursday. When I take pictures of the other one I'll post it.ReesieAnnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09787754640261886424noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4545354134902666720.post-19336374226246239982008-07-25T21:17:00.005-04:002008-07-25T21:34:06.000-04:00WAAAAAAAAA!!!! I WANT TO CRY!!!!Before anyone feels the need to tell me how stupid I was and that I should have known better... I KNOW!!!! But it still doesn't make me feel any better.

I got out one of my old purses to put my knitting in. It was a knock-off " Kate Spade" silver case-like purse. I guess it would resemble a cross between a pilots case and a metal lunch box. It wasn't too big, actually it wasn't big enough for everything that I'd need to put in a purse but it was so darned cute I didn't dare get rid of it. I got it out because it would fit one skein of yarn and my double pointed needles (DPNs) which my first sock was being worked on and it all would be protected.

So tonight we went shopping with my MIL to look for patio furniture (her and us) and LJ wanted to carry something (DUH I know!) so I thought giving him my knitting case to carry around would be less damaging than if I had given him my purse (also small) with my digital camera, ipod and cell phone in case he dropped it. I was keeping a pretty good eye on him and actually piked it up a few times but when we got to dinner it hit me. WHERE WAS MY KNITTING CASE????? I got up and went back through the store (the pizzareia we were in is attached to the store we went to) - I looked everywhere - asked everyone I saw... no one had seen it... went back to the table... Hubby asked me if I checked one spot - I said no, I didn't - so he went to check for me and also did a sweep of the areas we were in - still didn't find it. After we ate my MIL, LJ and I all went back through a third time looking for it and checking with the staff and still no one had found it. I even went outside and looked around in all the shopping carts but still... no purse.

I figure that someone thought it might be a REAL Kate Spade and took it. We even looked around the parking lot thinking someone may have dumped the knitting (YIKES!!!) and just taken the purse but no... that didn't happen either. I did leave my name and number and description of the purse with the check out girl. Then as we were leaving after one more sweep I saw one of the ladies I was talking to about it and told her that it wasn't the purse that I cared about it was the knitting inside.

I'm not getting my hopes up - it's gone... it's my own fault.

On the brighter side I get to cast on a new sock! And I think I'll treat myself to a new skein of yarn to boot!ReesieAnnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09787754640261886424noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4545354134902666720.post-67791848399341971232008-07-25T14:22:00.004-04:002008-07-25T15:20:24.539-04:00Update Info July 2008 - in no particular orderOMG I have so much to update this blog on... so I just made the decision to blog about one thing at a time... so it may take me a couple of posts to get it all out but that's just going to have to do. And this will be my first!

This is only one of the things I am so excited about...

First some backstory...

When my FAB was here visiting last month she told me about podcasts. I had heard about them before but honestly I don't think I really "got it" as to what they are all about and how FANTASTIC they can be. Of course the one's that she told me about were knitting ones and they are so much fun to listen to. Thing is a lot of them have been podcasting for at least 2 years (or more!) and that is a lot to catch up on... but I'm trying! So basically I download the podcasts from itunes into my ipod and listen away. Every spare chance I get I'm listening to one... well except for in the morning while I'm in the shower because my brain is just not awake enough to comprehend what is being said... but any other time I'm listening away... even at work! I do a lot of typing and can listen and type at the same time - that being said I'm almost caught up on one podcast.

I've been wanting an additional ipod just for my podcasts so that I don't have to keep taking the one that I have with everywhere. I have a docking station for it in my bathroom so that I can listen to MY music while I'm in the shower and getting ready in the morning instead of listening to the same old same old on the radio. Since I've been listening to my podcasts wherever I go I usually leave my ipod somewhere where it isn't where I need it to be when I want to listen to it. ie: it's upstairs next to my bed and I'm downstairs ready (I'll leave it at that) to get in the shower - UGH! I've been watching woot! (if you don't know who or what that is check it out at WOOT! - it is awesome) for a refurbished ipod/mp3 player for a relatively low price. A few weeks ago there was a woot-off! and I had thought that I had gotten an 8G ipod shuffle... still dunno what happened but I didn't get it. Bummer! But YESTERDAY they had a 30G ipod 5th Generation and I wooted it and this time I'm sure that I got it!!! So sometime next week I'll get my new ipod and I can't wait!!!!

This way I can leave my regular ipod at home in the bathroom with ALL of my music on it to listen to while I'm in there and load just about everything else I own onto my new ipod that I'll take WITH me where ever I go.ReesieAnnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09787754640261886424noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4545354134902666720.post-19006636887848048972008-07-19T12:58:00.004-04:002008-07-19T13:05:54.190-04:00Monkey see...
